Strengthening National Implementation of UN Sanctions: Africa Regional Expert Workshop

SaVI in partnership with the Small Arms Survey, Geneva, held a workshop on "Strengthening National Implementation of UN Sanctions: Africa Regional Expert"

The purpose of the regional expert workshop was to:

  1. raise awareness of the extent of UN sanctions on the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), including the arms embargo, and the techniques used to evade the embargo;
  2. facilitate an exchange of information on good practices and lessons learned regarding the implementation and enforcement of the UN sanctions and arms embargo on the DPRK; and
  3. identify effective measures to prevent, detect, and respond to attempts to circumvent the UN sanctions on the DPRK.

The principal objective of the workshop it is to build knowledge and strengthen the capacities to effectively implement UN sanctions at the national level. Representatives from 14 African governments participated in the workshop.
