Core Team

Guy Lamb is the Director of SaVI, a post he has held since October 2012. He also convenes postgraduate courses in the Departments of Political Studies and Public Law at UCT. Prior to this he was the Programme Head of the Arms Management Programme at the Institute for Security Studies. He has served on the UN Security Council Panel of Experts on Liberia.

Lameez Mota is SaVI's Project Coordinator, a position she has held since February 2012. Her main responsibilities are to coordinate SaVI's research and social responsiveness projects and events. Her roles include financial, organisational and human resource management. She is also responsible for information management; including, managing the initiative's website and social media.

Giselle Warton is a Researcher at SaVI and has been primarily involved in research on violence against women and children in South Africa. She graduated from UCT with a Masters in Social Justice, with a focus on refugee and women's rights. Prior to working as a Researcher with SaVI, she worked in the human rights and refugee sector in Lebanon.

Ncedo Mngqibisa is a Project Researcher at SaVI. Ncedo has substantial ethnographic research experience. He has worked on various topics including violence, social cohesion, and local governance. Ncedo has conducted research with the African Centre for Cities, Human Sciences Research Council, Medical Research Council and NGOs such as Foundation for Contemporary Research. Ncedo has an Honours degree in Psychology and a Masters in Human Geography.

Azwi Netshikulwe is a Project Researcher at SaVI. Azwi joined UCT in 2002. He holds a Masters degree in Sociology and is currently working on his PhD in Industrial Sociology. He is interested in issues related to the labour market and migration in South Africa and is conducting research on the occupational/ethnic niches of African migrants in South Africa, focusing on informal Congolese car-guards.

Lauren October is a Field Researcher at SaVI. Her research interests are international relations, African politics, and conflict studies. She graduated from the University of Stellenbosch with a Masters degree in Political Science. Prior to working as a Field Researcher at SAVI, she worked in the Policy Development and Research cluster of the Centre for Conflict Resolution in Cape Town, South Africa.

Leandri Pretorius is a Project Researcher at SaVI. She graduated from UCT with a Masters in Applied Economics. Leandri previously worked at the Health Economics and HIV and AIDS Research Division as a Junior Researcher, where she focused her research on gender equality and health. As a result of her time spent there, she developed an interest in women’s rights.
