Preventing Violence and Promoting Safety in Fragile

The Safety and Violence Initiative hosted a conference at the River Club, Cape Town between 27 and 28 November 2017. The conference was titled: 'Preventing Violence and Promoting Safety in Fragile and Insecure Environments'.

International Conference on Violence Prevention

Between 8 and 9 September 2016, UCT SAVI and the Global Campaign for Violence Prevention of the World Health Organization (WHO) hosted an international conference on violence prevention titled 'Preventing Violence: From Scientific Excellence to Effective Practice'. 


X Marks the Spot

On Thursday 26 November, UCT SAVI launched the second issue of its 'At the Coalface' publication. At the launch, Dr Simon Howell discussed community responses to 'Tik' and gangsterism on the Cape Flats. The publication can be found at http://goo.gl/UfreoD.

The 1st South African Homicide  Colloquium

UCT SAVI hosted the 1st South African Homicide Research Colloquium from the 3 - 4 September 2015. The aim of the colloquium was to develop a more comprehensive understanding of homicide (with a particular focus on South Africa).

 

 Understanding and Preventing Violence in Africa

UCT SAVI, CHEC and the Western Cape Government hosted a colloquium  from 1-2 November 2013. A key focus was on how to more effectively pursue violence prevention in the Western Cape. 

  

         Campaign for Safer Communities Launch

The launch of the Campaign for Safe Communities, a campaign addressing community violence, took place on 27 March 2013, at Jameson Hall, University of Cape Town.

UCT Says Enough

On 20 February 2013, University of Cape Town staff, students and academics marched in protest of the high rates of violence in South Africa, particularly that targeting women and children.
